and bind it to the shank with the tips pointing
forward. Stand the clump of hair up by
wrapping a thread dam tight against the front
of the bundle. Wrap several turns of thread
around the base of the hair fibers to form a
parachute platform we’ll use in a future step.
Trim off the waste fibers at an angle along
the shank to blend the hair butts with the
hackle tail. Wrap over them to complete the
transition between the two materials.
3 Prepare a dun hackle feather by stripping
the fuzzy material from the base of
the stem. Tie it to the hook in front of the
post, then wrap the thread to the end of
the shank. Tie several peacock herls to the
hook by their tips while wrapping forward
to the hook eye. Wrap the herl forward to
meet the thread, forming the body in the
process. Trim off the waste materials.
4 Wrap the hackle around the post parachute
style, then tie off the feather at the
hook eye. Cut off the waste, whip-finish
and trim. Clip the post fibers to form
a short stub and apply head cement to
complete the fly.
the cone/bead to the front of the hook.
The Krazy Glue anchors the two firmly
in place, forming the head. Attach the
thread to the hook behind the head and
bind a strip of heavy copper wire to it
while wrapping to the back of the shank.
Trim any waste materials.
2 Select a mixed clump of copper and gold
Metallic Flash and tie it to the hook to form
a tail equal to the shank length. Bind the
waste ends to the area of the shank behind
the head to provide a smooth underbody.
Trim any waste ends.
3 Bind a length of copper HT Braid and
also a strand of Tri-Lobal Hackle to the
shank while wrapping the thread to the
back of the hook. Then wrap it forward to
meet the head. Wrap the HT Braid forward
to form the body. Tie it off and trim as
needed. Wind the copper rib forward over
the body, tie it off, and trim.
4 Wind the hackle forward over the body,
keeping each turn close to the preceding
one. Tie it off and trim it behind the head.
Whip-finish and trim the thread from
the hook. Apply a coat of head cement to
complete the fly.
