Stephen Noel from Boylston, Massachusetts recently sent us this simple, but fish-catching
fly. He gets his copy of the magazine and materials at Lower Forty Outfitters in Worcester
(508-752-4004) near his home. He tells us, “This pattern covers all dead-drift insects and
will work when all else fails.”
1 Start by placing the hook in the vise and laying down a thread base that covers the rear
75% of the shank. Select a sparse clump of dun hackle fibers, even the tips and tie them to
the hook to form a tail equal to the shank in length. Trim off any waste fibers and thread
leaving the bobbin hanging at the one-fourth position.

which it has caught trout, steelhead, salmon, walleye and shoal bass. It works so well because
it produces a lot of action in the water and it really attracts the fish.” We have to agree, because
it sure caught our attention and will yours as well.
1 Slip a copper colored cone onto the shank, followed by a large, copper bead and set the
hook in the vise. Place a drop of Krazy Glue on the shank close to the hook eye and slide
