Reel $150
Spool $70
The Cortland Current
Mid Arbor is a top-quality
new design machined
from 6061-T6 bar-stock
aluminum, hard anodized in
charcoal (frame) and pewter
(spool). The series includes
three models, from the 3/5-weight Current I (tested) to the 8/10-weight
Current III ($170). All feature vented spools and frames, centerline disc drag
system with carbon fiber-to-stainless steel friction rings, and 1.2-inch diameter
knurled drag knob with 7/16” relief that rotates through three revolutions
and 50 micro-detents lock to lock. Start-up inertia for our Current I sample
reel measured only 2.9%, with maximum drag force in excess of 10.5 pounds.
Retrieve direction is reversed by removing the spool, pulling off the bearing
cover, and flipping over the one-way bearing. For more information contact

Galvan Torque T-3
Diameter 3.00”
Weight 4.2 oz.
Capacity WF2F+75 yds.
Made in USA
Reel $280
Spool $127
The T-3 is the smallest
model in Galvan’s 2004 Editors’
Choice Award winning
large-arbor Torque Series.
Fully machined from 6061
bar-stock aluminum, hard
anodized in your choice of bronze, black, green or clear, the Torque Series
includes nine models spanning line weights 2 through 16 ($280 to $690). All
feature push-button spool releases, fully vented spools and frames, stainless
steel-to-Ertalyte thermoplastic centerline disc drags, and tool-less retrieve reversal.
Our evaluation reel was the T-3, featuring a 1.25-inch diameter knurled
drag knob with 3/8” relief off of the frame that rotates through five revolutions
and hundreds of micro-detents lock to lock. Start-up inertia measured
an almost nonexistent—and most certainly imperceptible—0.34% in our
standard test, with maximum drag force in excess of the 12-pound limit of
our digital strain gauge. Fly reels simply don’t get any better than this. Contact
