Tie it off and trim as needed.
2 Tie on a six-inch section of green floss
while wrapping forward several thread
turns. Wrap about six turns of floss, tie it off
and trim the excess. Repeat the process with
red floss, thereby finishing a two-color tag.
Tie on a several-inch segment of flat, gold
tinsel while winding the thread forward to
the front of the thread base. This tinsel will
form the rib in the next step.
3 Tie on a length of black chenille or yarn
and construct a body located between the butt
and the looped-back eye platform. Tie it off
and trim the waste end. Wind the flat tinsel
forward to form a five-turn, evenly spaced rib.
Tie it off and trim away the extra.
4 Cut a clump of squirrel tail fibers and
tie it to the hook to form a wing that extends
even with the end of the bend. Top
the wing with several strands of rootbeer
Krystal Flash. Trim any waste materials.
5 Tie on a brown hackle and wrap it to
form a three-turn collar. Trim the waste,
wrap a head, apply a whip-finish and clip
off the thread. Apply a coating of head cement
to complete the fly.
back of the hook. Apply lead wire at this
point if weight is needed.
2 Construct the back part of the body using
black dubbing or a strand of yarn, then
counter wrap the wire to form the rib. Trim
any waste ends.
3 Select a slip of turkey tail that is as wide
as the hook gape and tie it to the shank
with its length facing toward the back.
It will later be used as a wing case. Get
three strands of rubber leg material and
trim them so they equal the hook shank
in length. Tie one perpendicular to the
shank and centered so the strand can form
the back legs of the nymph.
4 Wrap a couple of turns of dubbing-covered
thread (or yarn) and tie on a second
set of legs. Repeat this process one more
time to form the third set of legs. Pull the
turkey over to form the wing case, tie it in
place and trim off the waste end.
5 Apply dubbing or yarn to form the head,
then whip-finish and trim off the thread.
Use cement to complete the fly.
