Bo Cash at the Table Rock Angler (828-433-7637) in Morganton,
North Carolina welcomes customer and fly tier, Jeremy Grady,
to his fly shop to pick up a copy of Fly Fish America and purchase
tying supplies. Jeremy developed this fly to mimic a chartreuse
spinner bait his girlfriend, Sharon, used one evening to catch a
"bunch? of crappie. He is pleased to report the fly is a success!

1 Place the hook in the vise and attach the tying thread two eye
widths back on the shank. Wrap to the end of the shank and trim
off the waste thread. Select a strand of .015 lead wire and wrap it
on the hook shank, leaving some space at the front and the back
of the shank for other materials. Trim off any surplus. Wrap the
tying thread back and forth over the wire to anchor it in place.
Leave the thread hanging at the back of the hook.
2 Tie on a small tuft of red marabou no longer than the span
of the hook gape to form the tail. Tie in the silver braid at the
back while advancing the thread to the front of the thread base.
Trim off any waste materials.
3 Wrap the braid forward to meet the thread, tie it off, and
trim the excess. Tie on a sparse clump of white marabou to form
an underwing long enough to reach the end of the tail. Top it
with a clump of chartreuse marabou, then place a few strands
of Krystal Flash on each side of the marabou as a wing accent.
Trim all materials as needed.
4 Tie a small tuft of red marabou on the underside of the hook
to form a beard-style hackle. Trim off the extra marabou. Wrap
a thread head, whip-finish, and trim. Apply a coating of head
cement to complete the fly.
