Smith Optics
Interlock Trace
Fishing Glasses
Smith Optics’ Interlock Trace polarized
fishing glasses offer an unusual feature: easily
interchangeable lenses that let you optimize fish-finding visibility for any water,
bottom or lighting conditions.
Unlike most interchangeable lens glasses with an open frame that just begs for
the lenses to fall out, Interlock Trace frames fully surround and protect the lenses.
A patent-pending release mechanism incorporated into the bows opens the frame
to remove or install lens sets. All you have to do is rotate the bows 90 degrees in
either direction, pop out the old lenses, insert the new ones, then rotate the bows
back to vertical, locking the lenses in place until you’re ready to swap them again.
They feature frames made from tough, UV-resistant Grilamid TR90 with no-slip
Megol temple pads in an 8-base wrap that fits most face shapes. The TLT Carbonic
polarized lenses are made from shatter-resistant polycarbonate, and block 99.9% of reflective
glare, as well as 100% of UVA, UVB and UVC radiation. Available frame/lens
color schemes include Black/Polar Gray, Black Fade /Polar Gray, Wood Tortoise/Polar
Brown and Smoke Tortoise/Polar Gray. All are priced at $149, and include Smith’s
lifetime warranty and a zippered hard with removable pouch to store three sets of
accessory lenses. Optional polarized lenses include Platinum Mirror, Bronze Mirror,
Sienna Brown, True Color Gray, RC22 (all $60), and Polarchromic Copper and
Polarchromic Gray (both $70). See them at your fly shop, or contact Smith Optics,

Simms 3XDry SolarFlex Hoody
If you spend any time on the flats, this is the shirt you need. Designed specifically
for hard-core flats guides who spend all day long every day in the broiling sun, Simms’
new 3XDry SolarFlex Hoody is the best protection from skin cancer yet devised.
Made from 100% polyester Schoeller 3XDry fabric, the SolarFlex Hoody combines
UPF 30 sun protection with Schoeller’s 3XDry “feel good” fabric technology.
From the exterior surface inward to the center, 3XDry fabric is water repellent; from
the interior surface outward to the center, it is water absorbing. The effect is that you
stay cool and dry, since rain and spray are kept on the outside, while perspiration
is wicked away from the skin to evaporate, producing a cooling effect as it does so.
Simms’ SolarFlex Hoody maximizes the benefits of
3XDry technology in a shirt designed specifically for
flats fishing. Its namesake “hoody” is really a 13-inch
tall turtleneck that can be pulled up over the head and
face, completely covering and protecting everything
except your eyes. Other features include
lightweight (7.8 oz. in size L), soft, stretchknit
fabric for mobility, raglan sleeves for
unrestricted movement, straight hem,
no-scratch interior label, and integrated,
full-height, stretch-mesh venting that
runs from the hem, up both sides,
through the arm pits, and all the way
down the sleeves to the cuffs. Available
in sizes S through XXL, it sells
for $54.95. See it at your fly shop, or
