• Lake Creek
• Riversong Lodge
Located right on
the bank of the scenic
Yentna River at its
confluence with Lake
Creek, Riversong Lodge is only a 40 minute flight from the
Anchorage Airport’s Lake Hood float plane base—meaning
you can zip up for a couple day’s of fishing, or decide to spend
the entire week.
Lake Creek is a swift flowing, clear, gravel-bottomed river
originating in the Alaska Range, and is home to all five species
of Pacific salmon, rainbow trout and arctic grayling. Really
big northern pike are also available in nearby local waters. In
addition to float-plane fly outs, Riversong offers helicopter
flights to otherwise unreachable, untouched waters.

• Chatham Strait, Admiralty Island
• Whaler’s Cove Sportfishing Lodge
Tucked into the cedars and hemlocks on little Killisnoo Island,
within shouting distance of Admiralty Island, Whaler’s Cove
Sportfishing Lodge (www.whalerscovelodge.com; 800-423-
3123) is located in the heart of prime Southeast salmon water.
From late summer into fall the creeks and rivers spilling off
Admiralty Island literally wiggle with king, pink, chum and silver
salmon, in that seasonal order. In small boats from Whaler’s, fly
fishers can run up the river mouths, get out and wade fish upstream,
throwing purple egg-sucking leeches at more salmon than most
anglers ever see, guarded by a guide packing a pump-gun grizzly
dissuader. Admiralty Island—Kootsnoowoo (Fortress of the Bears)
as the Tlinglets call it—is home to the world’s highest density of
25 Best Lodges in America, and for good reason. Hand-built
from native white spruce logs, the main lodge and ten guest
cabins all face the Yentna and Mt. McKinley. There’s also a
wood-heated sauna for guest use. The full-service Angler’s
Bar has all the top-shelf liquors known to man, as well as a
wide selection of fine wines and premium beers on tap, and
the lodge’s handpicked chefs prepare the best food you’ll find
anywhere in Alaska.
Rates run from $880 per person double occupancy for a
1 day/1 night stay, to $3,885 for a 6 day/6 night package.
Rates include round-trip float plane flight from/to Anchorage,
accommodations, meals, guided fishing, and use of fishing
equipment and waders. To book your trip to Riversong
Lodge, log on to www.yellowdogflyfishing.com, or contact

Alaska coastal brown bears and the last large expanse of oldgrowth
rain forest in Southeast.
The Chinook (king) run peaks in June and fills the rivers from
mid July through mid August. Silvers are hot from September
through mid October. Chums arrive in two runs, one in June
and the other in late August, with the peak in mid July. Pinks
by the millions arrive in mid June, and the rivers are full of these
5- to 8-pounders through the end of September. Rockfish, Dolly
Varden, and cutthroat are available all season, and steelhead are
in some rivers as early as April 1, peaking by early May .
