QUEBEC
• Malbaie River
• Malbaie River Lodge
Catching an Atlantic salmon is always a challenge, so everything an angler can do to put the odds in his favor is
an advantage. Malbaie River Outfitters, an Orvis Endorsed Lodge located in the salmon-rich Gaspe region of Quebec,
has several factors in its favor that make it a favorite for the salmon angler. First, they fish eight different watersheds: the
highly regarded York, Dartmouth, Grande, Malbaie and St. Jean Rivers among them. Guests at the lodge enjoy tremendous
flexibility to go where salmon populations are at their densest throughout the season. Secondly, these are gin-clear rivers
where anglers will see most every salmon finning in a pool, never wasting valuable time blind casting fruitlessly over water
where no salmon are holding. Third, this is all essentially private water, even on lottery-controlled stretches. Finally, this
is big fish territory: 8 to 12 pounders are average, while 20+ pound trophies are not uncommon, along with season-round
opportunities for bruisers that eclipse 30 pounds. Malbaie River Lodge’s crew of guides are among the most experienced
you’ll find anywhere, and the lodge’s warm, inviting hospitality coupled with their comfortable facilities and well prepared
meals mark this operation as a real winner. Rates are $1,600 for 4 nights/3 full days of guided fishing; or $500 per day
guided fishing including lodging and meals. Guests fly commercially to Gaspe, Quebec via Montreal. Upon arrival, guests
are met and transferred by car to the lodge. For more information, or to book a trip, contact Paul Melchior at Angling

YUKON TERRITORY
• Lake Laberge
• Spirit of the North Guides
The Yukon is a vast, unpopulated, pristine wilderness, and its majesty is the stuff of legends. Lake Laberge and the Thirty
Mile River (part of the Yukon) is the center of fishing and related outdoor activities offered by Rob Hewer of Spirit of the
North Guides. Laberge is 30 miles long and has crystal clear water, as does Thirty Mile. The lake’s vistas are among Canada’s
most beautiful, with a backdrop of majestic mountains. This area, made famous by the Klondike gold rush, is a fly fisher’s
paradise. It’s one of the few places where fish can be caught on almost every cast.
Target species include record size Arctic grayling, northern pike, and lake trout. Other species include inconnu (the tarpon
of the north) and whitefish. Pike and trout can top 50 lbs. Seeing trophy grayling surface from six feet down in gin clear waters
to take a dry is awe inspiring. It’s the incredible sight fishing opportunity here that makes this area even more special. Wildlife
viewing can be spectacular, and this is one of the best areas for experiencing truly awesome displays of the northern lights.
Rob was the Yukon Golden Host award winner, and can customize trips by canoe or power boat to meet your needs, with
overnight camping or accommodations in a comfortable lodge or cabin. Rates from Whitehorse are $315/person/day. Contact
