• Flowers River Lodge
In 1992 the Canadian Government
bought out the gill
netters that devastated the Atlantic
salmon and Arctic char
populations of Atlantic Canada. The Flowers River’s remoteness
protected it. Twenty years ago it was one of the world’s greatest
salmon rivers; today it’s even better. More and bigger salmon
and char return to this beautiful, pristine river that represents
the most northerly range for salmon in the Atlantic.
In my opinion, the Flowers is the finest dry-fly salmon river
in the world. Clear, gravel-bottom pools allow sight fishing and
stalking these magnificent fish. This is the absolute pinnacle of
fly fishing. Flowers River salmon outnumber grilse, and fish in
the 30-pound+ range are more common—the 31-pound world
• North Knife Lake
• North Knife Lake Lodge
Why northern Manitoba
is not on every serious fly fishers
destination list remains a
mystery to me. With an abun-
dance of trophy gamefish, hundreds of pristine lakes and rivers,
and little or no angling pressure, this seems to be the perfect place
for the adventurous angler. Not surprisingly, some lodges in this
part of the world have realized the potential for fly fishing and
are now actively catering to this growing market.
North Knife Lake Lodge, 150 miles north of Thompson,
Manitoba, is a perfect example, and the ideal place to begin
your Manitoba adventure. This modern, luxury paradise in the
wild offers 150,000 acres of spectacular fly fishing for six species
of gamefish, including monster northern pike and lake trout,

The northern peninsula
of Newfoundland
is one of Canada’s most
intriguing wilderness
areas—home to puffins, whales, icebergs and great fishing.
Vast networks of streams, rivers, lakes, and ponds hold Atlantic
salmon, brook trout, and artic char in amazing numbers.
Nestled at the northern tip of Newfoundland on Southwest
Pond are the luxurious, Scandinavian-style accommodations of
Tuckamore Lodge (www.tuckamorelodge.com; 888-865-
6361). The lodge is widely recognized for exceptional outdoor
experiences, and the staff makes guest satisfaction a priority.
Tuckamore Lodge is actually comprised of two main lodges
at the Southwest Pond camp, plus two remote lodges, one at
White’s Arm Pond and the other on the Grey Islands. The main

• Great Bear Lake
• Plummer’s Arctic Lodge
An isolated watering hole that’s home to massive trout: Every
angler’s dream, right? Only a cook, a maid, and indoor plumbing
could make the dream sweeter. Well, the impossible dream is a
reality at Plummer’s Arctic Lodge on Great Bear Lake in Canada’s
wild and pristine Northwest Territories. The Plummer family has
been running this and other arctic fishing lodges for more than sixty
years, so they know a thing or two about catering to anglers.
The fourth largest lake in North America, Great Bear Lake is
the home waters of lake trout that tip the scales to numbers that
